The shop that was demolished by the lorryOn 18th August, 2009 around 5pm, people from Luwinga Township in Mzuzu had an experience that was horrible and so disturbing. The lorry on the picture crashed into a shop before hitting the veranda of the house adjacent to the shop and killing two people on the spot and others seriously injured. One person who got injured died at Mzuzu Central Hospital raising the death toll to three.
Reports are saying that the lorry was on road test when its braking system failed. The driver of the lorry then lost control and crashed into the shop. Before it crashed into the shop, it hit people who were playing bawo game killing two of them died on the spot and one customer who was coming from the shop got injured as well as the bricks of the broken wall hit him. The lorry then struck the veranda pole of the house next to the shop and stopped.
The owner of the vehicle just died last month and reports are saying that there are wrangles about the vehicle by the relatives of the deceased husband and the wife.
One witness who was on the scene said it (the lorry) could have damaged the house next to the shop had it not been for the high foundation of the house and that a lot of the people could have been involved had it been that there were a lot of people on the shop.
Not charges were placed by the time this story was published. Loss of life in this kind of manner is completely horrible.
